TRANSMEDIA LECTURE

   Today's lecture was based on Transmedia. Transmedia is a type of storytelling the we do on a day to day basis, for example social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, SMS e.t.c Here are some brief notes, from what I have learnt from today's lecture.

BLAST THEORY:

Blast Theory was formed in 1991, by a group of friends working at a cinema. They had to make work that sat between club culture, theatre and live music. Also, able to produce live events working with installation artists, dancers, musicians.

KIDNAP BLIPVERT/KIDNAP(1998):

Kidnap Blipvert was made by Blast Theory

The starting point:

Kidnap Blipvert is about pleasures of giving up control. Instead, they invite the public to give up control to us. We decide to run a lottery where, two winners were picked at random to be kidnapped on a specified date.

During kidnap there was a step-up of a camera (i.e. Big Brother-type), understanding space for peroformance and they were also released at a press conference attended by editors of: The Sun, NOTW, Daily Express e.t.c. During this press conference, all the victims had options of kept in underwear, 20 cigarettes e.t.c. Blast Theory thought that kidnapping was a type of fantasy, therefore people will think abut the concept of being kidnaaped themselves.

RIDER SPOKE (2007):

Rider Spoke was a type of experience for up to 30 cyclists a time. These 30 or more cyclists, cycle through the City of London. During this video, these cyclists describe themselves either as an unknown or named person with an age).

Starting Points:
The commission for UCLA. This is a type dof work which looks at driving culture the kind of space it provides and looking at user-generated content.

 A MACHINE TO SEE WITH (2010):

A locative cinema commission for the Sundance Film Festival 01SJ and the Banff New Media Institue. This was a type of heist movie, where you as the actor play the lead.

In this clip, there are six people that start at six different street corners in the City. They get lead to all different locations for example toilet, McDonalds. These six people also receive automated phone calls in which, how they plan a bank robbery together. The planning was use of Google maps.

MY NECK OF THE WOODS (2013):

My neck on the woods was based on young people and questions surrounding their day to day live. They would use technology such as:

•  Android Phone
• Panasonic Camera
• 4xUSB Ports

TRANSMEDIA - STORYTELLER:

Transmedia storyteller is about to get prepared for transmedia performers. The software that is used to create storyteller is Conducttr, which is a pervasive entertainment plaform. Transmedia has two worlds:

• Multiplaform storytelling - Performance: just another plaform
• Interactive storytelling - Audience impacts on story
• Traditional relationship: Writer, Director, Actor and Audience
• Transmedia relationship: Writer, Director, Actor and Audience

All roles go directly to the source for all the in-world character's interaction.

• Breaking the 4th wall - Consistency

Rules and degree of interacitvity:

• Goals
• Moments

In world:
Narrative justification for interactivity:

• Who?
• Why ?
• What ?
• When ?
• Where ?

Interactivity allows new narratives.

New creative process:

• Re-think the process: Encourage a collaborative interactive workflow.
• Get to know the character in real depth: different versions of the self.
• Justification for technology and audience participation: Narrative goal vs. void transgression.
• If audience is an actor of the play, they should attend rehearsals as well.
• Real world as a plaform.
• Don't shrive for effects, just believe in what you do.

The Darkened City was told overthe 5 days from Monday 10th - Friday 15th November 2011).

There was a photo of Lancaster and explained the work of Harry Marshall to invite an audience. Audience members were invited by twitter name @liveatlica. The whole SMS messages text was from Harry to Veronica through out the five day period. At the end of five day period, The blogger was at hospital.
